The authors investigated the influence of various bottom conditions on the so-called shallow water effect, providing with several forms of the false bottoms. Three models, one of them being box-shaped, were experimented for three depths of water. Distinct differences were recognised between the experimental results for the rigid bottom and that for the false bottom, as were shown in Figs.5 to 7. In general, it was something like that the false bottom reduces the efect of shallow water. The phenomena varied delicately as to the constructions of the false bottom and the conditions of its setting;of which the effect of the gap of the bottom were remarkable, as were shown in Figs. 9&10,while the distance between the false bottom and the rigid bottom had some effect on the phenomena. Measured deflection of the false bottom were large enough heyond expectation. According to their experimental results, the variations of the effect of shallow water for actual ships corresponding to the actual conditions of the bottom should be anticipated.
