In this investigation the plastic torsion of a mild steel rod, cold-twisted beyoud the yield point, subjected to a torque, which is directed in the reversed direction to the former one, was studied from both experimental and theo etical sides. The relation between torque and twisting angle, and the stress-distribution was theoretically obtained by using the stress-strain diagram of the plastically cold-twisted mild steel. In the experiment, in which the stress-strain diagram was founded, after the hollow tube with very thin wall-thickness had been plastically twisted in one direction, the same tube was strained by the torque in the reversed direction to the former. After the theory had been developed, the experiments with solid bars and tubes of thick wall were made respectively. The results obtained from these experiments are compared with the values computed theoretically, and it was shown that differences between these results are very small.
