12. Estimation of Natural Frequency for Fore-and-aft Vibration of Superstructures Using Data Base

This paper presents an estimation method of the fore-and-aft natural frequency of the superstructure. Accuracy of several existing empirical formulas were examined by using newly developed data base system on the superstructure vibration. In order to obtain an accurate simple formula, some empirical formulas having different parameters were derived from the regression analysis using data base. It is found that height of vibration layer introduced by the Hirowatari method gives the best accuracy as a parameter of empirical formula. However, accuracy of simple formula can not be expected to be within 12%, because this formula does not take into account complexity, variety of superstructures and coupled effect with ship hull vibration.
