To evaluate fatigue design under service loading conditions, we are currently obliged to use methods based on the Miner rule. However, the Miner rule has not yet been corroborated by other methods, such as actual loading fatigue tests, and it is not always clear that it leads to proper fatigue designs. The authors propose a new method for developing fatigue strength diagrams under random loading conditions based on random loading fatigue tests plus an equation. In this paper, the applicability and the accuracy of the method were checked under a wide band random loading condition with an exponential distribution of peak to peak-stress ranges. Axial, load-controlled random loading fatigue tests were carried out for plane mild steel specimens, and fatigue behavior was then examined.
