• The majority of supercomputers has been based on either vector or parallel vector architecture. High Performance Computing and Communications project, which aims at increasing available computational power by 1000 times and communication speed by 100 times, is helping development of MPPs, Massively Parallel Processors, and is becoming a big wave to possibly change the supercomputers' trend. The wave seems to have positive impact on developing faster supercomputers, but, at the same time, have negative impact on improving ease-of-use and user interface. In this paper, supercomputers' trends, their problems behind, and their future are discussed. HPCC project which stimulates the development of supercomputers is also briefly introduced.
