概要

• Recently, new products of metal halide lamps have been developed, and various kinds of the HID lamps become available in the market for public. By using the excellent features of the metal halide lamp, i.e. high efficiency and high color rendering. HID lamps are used for lighting in store and back lighting for LCD in lower wattage, and for lighting of sports events in higher wattage by taking into account of projection of the events through the HDTV. The ballast of high frequency and rectangular wave, and the electronic starter have been already commercialized. It should be noted that in recent years many research works have been promoted in the fields of electrodeless RF discharge and microwave discharge.
