Electron energy distributions in optical-field ionized plasmas were examined numerically. Adequate control of electron energy distribution is required for developing optical-field ionization (OFI) X-ray lasers. In particular, production of cold electrons is a critical issue for the OFI recombination X-ray laser. Electron energies are determined by above threshold ionization energy, collisional heating (inverse bremsstrahlung) and several plasma instabilities. At high plasma densities, the collisional heating is significant. The effect of the collisional heating was examined exactly using the binary collision model.
