Protons can be injected effectively into a synchrotron by charge-exchange scheme. Negative hydrogen ions of more than 40 MeV are injected into a charge-stripping foil at a synchrotron, then they change there to protons and circulate along the stable orbit. The idea is not new, but recent high H^- ion sources enable the system to be used widely in high intensity machines. The protons pass through the foil many times without serious energy loss or angle deviation. After the injection is completed, the orbit is slightly shifted so that the protons no more hit the foil. The charge-exchange scheme is applied to a H^- cyclotron for proton beam extraction with a high efficiency. In a tandem electrostatic accelerator, negative heavy ions are injected and accelerated to the high voltage terminal. They are stripped to multiple-charge positive ions by a foil or gas stripper, then accelerated from the terminal to the ground and extracted. The energy is increased at least two times compared with the single ended one.
