Many curves in natural products are comfortable for human eyes. If attractive curves, not so frequently used in the design of factory products, are found in natural products, we can apply them for a new shape design. In order to find the attractive curves, we propose a method for analyzing the characteristics of curves in natural and factory products using a curvature variation. The characteristics are classified into five types: divergent-, constant speed-, convergent-, divergent-convergent-, and convergent-divergent types. Using our method, we have analyzed many curves in the wings of butterflies and in the instrument panels of cars. As a result, it is observed that the ratio of divergent-convergent type curves is about twice to the curves of butterflies in contrast to the curves of cars. On the other hand, it is observed that the ratio of convergent type curves is about twice to the curves of cars in contrast to the curves of butterflies. Based on these observations, we show a new possibility of curve design for factory products.
