The activities of Ixodes persulcatus adults kept in the laboratory (laboratory group; 24℃, 16L-8D photoperiod) and outdoors (outdoor group) after they had molted (June, 1999) were observed in plastic cylinders which were placed outdoors. The adults of the outdoor group commenced their activity from March, 2000 and then showed high activity. However, the activity of the adults in the laboratory group was rarely found from March to May, 2000. These results suggest that the behavioural diapause of the outdoor group terminates in the spring, but that of the laboratory group does not. Thus, the behavioural diapause of I. persulcatus adults is not terminated with prolonged time after molting or by exposure to a long-day photoperiod (16L-8D).
