Aqueous foam was evaluated as a carrier for applying termiticide to voids beneath concrete slabs for subterranean termite control. Evaluations were conducted using liquid and a combination of liquid and foam to apply fenvalerate 1% a.i. to subslab voids. The liquid was applied with a fan nozzle through holes drilled 30cm apart and 15cm from an edge. The liquid was applied at 75% or the label-recommended volume, which was followed by the foam applied for the remaining 25% of the recommended volume of termiticide. The foam was applied using a commercial foam-generation machine, a surfactant, and a straight stream nozzle. Application was made through the same holes as the liquid. The soil was sampled at four sites beneath the slab, and insecticide residue analysis conducted by gas chromatography. Results show that liquid and the liquid and foam combination can create a continuous and nearly uniform band of insecticide-treated soil.
