This study examines some of the characteristics of English as spoken by Japanese university students who have taken listening practice course in a language laboratory. 66 subjects were asked to reproduce a news broadcast and their reproduced speeches were statistically a n alyzed. From our present study and our previous work it became evident that the learning process of production bears a strong resemblance to that of listening comprehension. When the subjects are not able to recail the original English, they resort to such strategies as substitution and addition exerting their effort as much as possible. It is our belief that the results obtained by the present study provide valuable implications for the study of learning strategies employed by non-native speakers.
