The committee in 1951 conforming to the desicion of the General Meeting of the Japan Association. Industrial Health. It is a sole research unit in Japan, co-operating of ca. 40 specialists in physiology, biochemistry, psychology and hygiene, from institutes, Universities and industrial plants all over the country. Here, analysing, criticizing and synthetizing many data, home and abroad, of fatigue studies in laboratory as well as well as in the field, the standardization of methods of estimating the industrial fatigue, and of measuring the physiological and psychological functional variations, has been done for practical use in the study of fatigue of workers, as an individual as well as a collective phenomenon. Some important themes are now allotted to groups of the members as follows: Research Groups a. Learning and Fatigue b. Muscle Fatigue c. Fatigue and Aging d. Climate, Acclimatization e. Conditioned Reflex f. Environmental Conditions g. Vigilance Task h. Working Hours and Shift problem i. Night-work j. Fatigu and Accidents k. Hormonal Functions l. Recovery of Fatigue The reports of these group studies are discussed at the symposium of the committee. The following are papers reported and discussed at the 1st. session held in May 1959, and those of the 2nd. session in Nov. 1959 are now in press for publication. It is intended by the committee to bridge over the theoretical research on fatigue in laboratories and the practical one in plants and, moreover, to switch on physiology to psychology in order to pave the way for the body-and-mind problem.
