In order to find out unnoticed cases of the gastric cancer or ulcer, 788 employees, aged 35 to 55 years, were examined by X-ray. The results were as follows. (1) Number of cases in which any abnormality was found 350 (44.4%). Among them : cancer 1 (0.1%), gastric ulcer 8 (1.0%), scarred cases of gastric ulcer 9 (1.1%), duodenal ulcer 32 (4.1%), scarred cases of duodenal ulcer 13 (1.6%), pyloric prolapse 16 (2.0%), gastritis 136 (17.3%), gastric ptosis 82 (10.4%), and others 53 (6.7%). (2) Total number of cases of ulcer was 62 (7.9%), and gastric cases as against duodenal cases were 17:45 or 1:2.65. Almost all of these cases had been unnoticed by the patients, and a greater part of them were a-or hypo-chlorhydric. (3) Subjective symptoms were not discriminated between cases of ulcer and other gastric disorders, gastritis, etc. (4) Mass X-ray examination of stomachs of all the employees is highly recommendable, because this serves to early finding of unnoticed cases of intestinal disorders, not only cancer but also other diseases, and therefore, to better supervision of all the workers.
