How do information technology and information system affect the temporality of work in organizations? Time is a social construct which is affected by information technology. Starting from Barley's study (1988) of the effects of computerized systems on the temporal aspects of working practices, we assess how office procedures can be affected by new information systems. Our case studies within the Korea Trade Network (KTNET) show how temporal aspects of export procedures in trading companies are changed. We observe from two case studies that information technology is likely to create temporal symmetry in work places. This leads towards a theory of temporal symmetry and the effects of information systems.
