There were historical models such as Daimler and Hildebrand in earlier German history, but there was no boom period such as seen in England and the USA, from the first decade of the 20^<th> century, when motorcycles were energetically produced. Those produced in Germany were few and definitely inferior in both performance and appearance. In the 1950's, the German motorcycle industry was not then as motor sports-oriented as the rest of the world, but was more active in developing new types of models as means of transportation for the masses. These were only passing fashions, among which there were no longsurviving models.
