By introducing a signal-enhancement procedure, we succeeded in detecting signals of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in Arabidopsis meiotic chromosomes from prophase I to telophase II. The improvement in sensitivity of the FISH allowed us to trace chromosome I movement through the process of pollen meiosis. This technique may be especially useful for analyses of meiotic mutants of Arabidopsis thaliana.
