Lipoxidase activity in etiolated wheat seedlings grown for 3.5 days was localized primarily in the coleoptile and first leaf of the seedling with moderate activity in the germinated seed and root. After 7 days growth, the distribution of lipoxidase within the plant did not change markedly while the total activity decreased. The dormant wheat seed exhibited 2 major and 2 minor bands of lipoxidase activity on polyacrylamide gel zymograms. After germination, there was a marked change in the relative intensities of the 4 lipoxidase bands depending on the part of the seedling assayed.
