The growth of the primary root of a single gene dwarf mutant of Zea mays L., dwarf-1, is dependent upon gibberellic acid or one of its derivatives as a growth hormone. Moreover, for the root to respond to gibberellin treatment both embryonic and mature tissues must contribute growth stimuli.
