Cell-free extracts of a bacteria-free culture of Nostoc muscorum were used to demonstrate the occurrence of part of the KREBS-HENSELEIT ornithine cycle in blue-green algae. Evidence is presented for the conversion of ammonia and bicarbonate to carbamyl phosphate and the coupling of carbamyl phosphate to ornithine to yield citrulline. Attempts to demonstrate the conversion of citrulline to arginine were not successful.
