Sections of the elongation zones of coleoptiles of Zea mays L. were incubated in buffers containing various concentrations of human epidermal growth factor (EGF). The growth rate of sections incubated with 10, 1.O or 0.1 μg liter^<-1> EGF was higher than that of control. EGF at 10 μg liter^lt-1> increased the growth rate by 73% of the control rate.
