Nodal cells of Chara braunii were exposed to artificial pond water (APW) for a month or more, with removal of larger surrounding cells. The membrane resistance, resting potential, amplitude of the action potential, and threshold voltage measured from the resting level were examined. Exposure to APW had marked effects on membrane properties.
