Caryopses with horizontally oriented primary roots of Zea mays L. (cv. Golden Cross Ban-tam 70), exposed to light, were incubated in magnetic fields of 50 μ gauss or 0.5 gauss (control) for 12 h. The gravitropic curvature of roots incubated in a field of 50 μ gauss was 37% larger than the control value, while the control roots grew more rapidly.
