The most effective spectral regions for anthocyanin production in cabbage leaf disks and Spirodela are the red, blue and ultraviolet A, with action in the far red (FR) minimal or nil. Phytochrome is involved in the photoregulation of anthocyanin production in these two systems. The expression of the response depends up. on photosynthetic activity. Comparison with data from other systems suggests that a spectral sensitivity with high efficiency of red and blue and low or nil efficiency of FR might be a common feature of anthocyanin production in systems with a low phytochrome content and dependent on photosynthetic activity for the expression of the reseponse.
