At the onset of budding in mulberry saplings (Morus alba L., cv. Shin-ichinose), the ATP, ADP and carbohydrate contents began to decline rapidly. This decline continued until RuBPCase activity began during the development of the leaves. The concentrations of these constituents and the value for the adenylate energy charge, though partially restored, were lower than the initial values even eight weeks after planting.
