The relationship between the cellular forms and respiratory activity of the dimorphic fungus Candida albicans was examined using a synthetic medium that supported growth of the yeast form at 25℃ or of the mycelial form at 37℃. The results agreed with the view that the repression of respiratory activity is not an essential event in the course of yeast-mycelium conversion. Also, most of the respiration in both cellular forms was sensitive to cyanide immediately after harvesting. The respiration of yeast cells, however, became resistant to cyanide when the cells were kept in a resting state.
