A Re-evaluation of the Mole Fraction of P_<FR> at the Red-light-induced Photostationary State Undegraded Rye Phytochrome

Photochemical properties were determined for undegraded phytochrome purified from lyophilized rye seedlings (Secale cereale cv. Cougar). The preparation was shown to be a two-component system during phototransformations and dark transformation from red-light-induced photostationary state. The mole fraction of P_<FR> at the 665-nm-light-induced photostationary state was 0.84. The ratio of the quantum yield of photoconversion from P_R to P_<FR> to that from P_<FR> to P_R was 1.53.
