More than 70% flowering was observed in Spirodela polyrrhiza SP_<20> under long and short days, when fronds were grown in a medium supplemented with 5 × 10^<-5> M salicylate (SA). To our knowledge this is the first report of such profuse flowering of this duckweed in vitro. Besides flowering. SA also affected the multiplication rate, anthocyanin and chlorophyll contents, and gibbosity. Aspirin had an effect similar to that of SA.
