Rapid interactions in cell division and cytodifferentiation are induced by hormone treatments in dark-cultured explants of Jerusalem artichoke. Fusicoccin, at concentrations between 10^<-6> and 10^<-5> _M, markedly inhibited the division-promoting activity induced by plant hormones. Further, fusicoccin-treated meristematic root tips of Vicia faba and Allium cepa showed a rapid decrease in the mitotic index. Fusicoccin seems to inhibit some hormone-sensitive processes required during the induction and regulation of cell division.
