• Gibberellin-like substances of stems and leaves from Stevia rebaudiana were analyzed and gibberellin A_<20> was identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The presence of GA_<20> in S. rebaudiana is significant for the interpretation of the gibberellin activity of steviol. It indicates that steviol, the C-13 hydroxykaurenoic acid, may function as a precursor for C-13 hydroxy-gibberellins and not as a gibberellin analog.
