1. Investigations were made on the influence of inorganic nitrogenous compounds upon the the germination of tobacco seeds (Nicotiana tabacum L. var. virginica (AGDH.) COM. "Bright Yellow ") induced by GA_3, kinetin and ammonium salts of organic acids. Potassium nitrate, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate and ammonium nitrate greatly increase the germination of the seeds induced by the above reagents, while these inorganic salts, given alone, are almost ineffective in causing germination. 2. Kinetin was shown to induce germination of tobacco seeds in the dark. The discrepancy with the results of previous investigations in this respect was discussed. 3. It was inferred that nitrogenous metabolism is involved in the process of dark-germination of tobacco seeds as induced by the above-stated stimulating factors and promoted by inorganic nitrogenous substances.
