A new L-aminolactam-hydrolyzing enzyme was partially purified from cells of Cljyptococcus laurentii which can grow on L-aminolactam as a carbon and nitrogen source. The enzyme required a bivalent metal ion, such as Mn^<2+> or Mg^<2+> and its molecular weight was roughly estimated to be 1.5×10^5. Some other properties were also studied.
