• The characteristics of root respiration of melon were examined with an oxygen electrode. The Hofstee plot of root respiration breaks into two straight lines. The results of cyanide inhibition experiments and curve-fitting analysis suggest that one cyanide-insensitive and two cyanide-sensitive oxidases operate in melon roots.
