( -)-Hydroxycitrate, a potent inhibitor of ATP : citrate oxaloacetate-lyase inhibited about 90% and 30% respectively, of the conversion of citrate-1,5-^<14>C and pyruvate-3-^<14>C into ipomeamarone, in sweet potato root tissue infected with Ceratocystis fimbriata. However, the conversion of acetate-2-^<14>C into ipomeamarone was not affected by (-)-hydroxycitrate. These results suggest that ATP : citrate oxaloacetate-lyase plays a role in the supply of acetyl CoA for terpenoid formation.
