• Excised root tips from sterile Phaseolus coccineus L. seedlings were incubated in sterile L-tryptophan-^3H. Ethanol extracts of the roots were separated by thin-layer chromatography, and the IAA area was eluted and run again in a different solvent system. The presence of labeled IAA was detected using three different solvent pair systems.
