Glycine decarboxylation, shown by us as an intermediate step in CO_2 evolution during photorespiration, was enhanced by oxygen tensions of up to 100%, whereas CO_2 evolution from glucose did not increase when oxygen tensions were raised above 20%. Thus, we concluded that enhancement of photorespiration by oxygen is not only due to stimulation of glycolate oxidation, but also to stimulation of glycine decarboxylation.
