The acetone condensation products phorone, diacetone alcohol and mesityl oxide, previously found to be active in the Pinto bean second internode assay (13), and candicandiols A and B were tested in a number of gibberellin bioassays. All proved to be biologically inactive. The possible immplications are discussed in relation to the biosynthesis of gibberellins and oxygenation at the C-12 position.
