L-Tyrosine carboxy-lyase (E.C. 4.1.1.25) was separated from L-tyrosine ammonia-lyase by ammonium sulfate fractionation from barley roots. Tyrosine carboxy-lyase is strongly inhibited by p-coumaric acid, the product of tyrosine ammonia-lyase reaction, and by caffeic acid at 1 mM.
