Nitrate reductase was solubilized and purified from Anabaena cylindrica by Triton X-100 treatment of particulate preparations followed by adsorption on calcium phosphate gel. Reduced methyl viologen. FAD or FMN, but not ferredoxin, served as an effective electron donor for the nitrate reduction by solubilized nitrate reductase.
