Eighteen herbaceous species of angiosperms were tested for the isolation of mesophyll cells and their protoplasts by applying enzymatic procedures originally developed for tobacco. Intact mesophyll cells and their protoplasts were obtained from a variety of plants, indicating the general applicability of these procedures.
