Twenty one Si-Al-Mg mixed hydrous oxide (SAM) samples in which atomic ratio of the constituents differ within 0.125〜0.750 were synthesized for the purpose of the development of new inorganic ion adsorbent as environmentally harmonious material by the neutralization precipitation method. Their ion adsorption properties were as well examined. All the samples showed ion exchange properties which were remarkably different in terms of their chemical compositions. The relationship between the adsorption amounts of K^4 and HPO_4^2 ions and the chemical compositions of the samples were well expressed by the two following linear multiple regressive equations. Q_K=0.558C_<Si>+0.177C_<Mg>+0.390 (R^2-0.745) Q_K=0.445C_<Si>+0.384C_<Mg>+0.280 (R^2-0.828) where Q_P and Q_K are the adsorption amount of HPO_4^2 and K^4 ions, C_<Si> and C_<Mg> are the atomic ratio of silicon and magnesium present in the samples and R is multiple the correlation coefficient. It was shown that the values calculated according to the above equations were considerably close to the obseved ones. There, the correlation coefficients against HPO_4^2 and K^4 ions adsorption were 0.863 and 0.910, respectively.
