A process for preparing a highly sufficient coagulating agent for coagulation and sedimentation treatment of various aqueous suspensions is described. Natural allophane or similar clay mineral substances are used as the starting materials. They are volcanic weathered products with their principal constituents, aluminum oxide and silicic acid. They are dissolved out with an inorganic acid, and thereby, the so-called coagulants and coagulant aids are obtained at the same time.
