Editorial (<Special Issue>Comparative Study of National Character)

As stated in the last issue of Behaviormetrika (Vol.29, No.2), this issue contains three additional papers accepted for the special issue "Comparative Study of National Character." First of all, Yamaoka and Hayashi develop a cultural link analysis which focuses on Japanese Americans. Next, Zheng and Yoshino present an analysis on the diversity patterns in the attitudes toward nature and environment in Japan, USA, and European countries. Finally, Kuroda presents the rainbow model of the American ethnic group and the environment in Japan, USA, and European nations. In the introductory section, Kuroda, professor of the University of Hawaii and a main collaborator of our series of Hawaiian (Honolulu) resident surveys over three decades, presents a summary of our collaborative studies over the years. We hope that these papers will provide some fundamental information which may prove useful toward the development of world peace and trust among the peoples on the earth in these times. Once again, we would like to express our thanks to those who have contributed to this special issue.
