New 2 : 1 cytosine-CaCl_2 and 1 : 1 cytosine-CaCl_2 complexes were obtained from 70% ethanol and water solutions, respectively. The infrared and proton magnetic resonance spectra of the complexes were characterized in comparison with those of many cytosinemetal complexes. On the basis of these data, it is suggested that calcium coordinates with the N (3) and C (2)=O sites of cytosine in the cytosine-CaCl_2 complexes.
