The kinetics of the double exchange of ligands between Mn bipy^<2+> or Mn phen^<2+> and a trisoxalatocobaltate(III) complex was studied in dimethylformamide (DMF)-water media. The reaction kinetics were followed spectrophotometrically in the temperature range of 20-40±0.1℃. The rates of the reactions were found to decrease with increasing DMF in the medium. The solvent effect on the reaction rate was discussed in terms of the dielectric constant of the medium and the thermodynamic properties of activation. A chain mechanism was proposed to account for the exchange process.
