The volume and weight of eggs of the rice skipper Parnara guttata guttata BREMER et GREY were collected through three generations from the field. Egg size of the 3rd (overwintering) generation was larger than that of the 1st and 2nd, which were similar. The larger eggs produced larger larvae. This was apparently because in the 3rd generation larvae had to feed on hard leaves of cogon grass growing in dry upland. The 1st and 2nd generation larvae fed only soft leaves of rice plants and other grasses growing in wet lowland ; all these died when transferred to the leaves of cogon grass. Females reared as larvae which developed under a 14hr photoperiod produced larger eggs than those under 16hr. These large eggs are comparable to those of the 3rd generation and the smaller ones to those of the 2nd generation in the field.
