The number of eggs laid by the cabbage white butterfly Pieris rapae crucivora BOISDUVAL, was estimated by three methods, adult chase, forced oviposition and dissection of ovaries. In Sapporo a female may deposit 600-800 eggs during her life span. The egg-laying activity of P. rapae differs from that of P. napi nesis FRUHSTORFER in the presence of a high peak in the period soon after emergence.
