On 2 October, 1965, soil Collembola were collected from three different types of vegetation from the alpine region (2700m) of Mt. Tateyama, the summit of which is 3015 m in altitude. The main plant species of each type of vegetation were Pinus pumila Regel, Phyllodoce sp. and Carex sp. respectively. All Collembola were extracted by Tullgren-funnel and were counted and identified (Table 1). Diversity and frequency of Collembola decreased in the following order : communities of Pinus pumila, Phyllodoce sp. and of Carex sp. Collembola inhabiting the Pinus pumila community consisted of Isotomidae (78-93%) and Poduridae (3-17%). And other families were less frequent. On the other hand, the majority of Collembola inhabiting the Phyllodoce community belong to Poduridae or Onychiuridae.
