1) The author observed the migration of Ceroplastes japonicus Green (Hom., Coccidae) infesting on the leaves of Rhaphiolepis umbellata Makino var. Martensii Makino and Euonymus japonica Thunberg in early autumn. 2) The last instar larvae and adults of female scales migrate from leaves to stems. As this scale has one generation in a year and the first instar larvae infest more preferably on the leaves than on the stems of both deciduous and evergreen trees, the migration in early autumn may be considered as an adaptation for avoiding the falling from the plants with leaves. 3) It can be assumed that the stimulus to initiate the migration of female scales is attributed to their physiological nature and the low temperature in early autumn.
