Much effort has recently been reported to improve reliability and performance of today's Internet. We have proposed and developed a network protocol called Multipath Transmission Control Protocol (M/TCP) as an alternative TCP option. M/TCP allows a sender to transmit data via multiple controlled paths to the same destination. Although several studies of M/TCP have been recently reported, research into congestion control in M/TCP is still underdeveloped. In this paper, we propose and implement congestion control mechanisms in M/TCP including One-Way-Trip Time (OWTT) measurement and retransmission policy. The OWTT measurement allows an M/TCP sender to estimate each route's time intervals of forward path and reverse path separately. The retransmission policy allows the sender to perform quick retransmission to the receiver. We compared performance of M/TCP with TCP Reno implementations using ns2 simulator. Simulation results show that M/TCP achieves significantly higher throughput than TCP Reno.
